Dr. Gargi Merchant completed her M.B.B.S.from King Edward Memorial Hospital ( KEM, Hospital) in Parel, Mumbai in 2008. She further went on to finish her Postgraduate training in Ophthalmic surgery from Nair Hospital and Topiwala National Medical College, Mumbai Central, Mumbai and thus achieved the M.S. (Ophthalmology) degree.

She was then invited for a Clinical Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Squint Surgery at the Prestigious Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. There she received advanced long term training under Prof. P. Vijayalaxmi in a wide variety of Eye Care treatment like Pediatric Eye Surgery, Pediatric Cararact surgery, Neuroophthalmology, Pediatric and Adult Squint Surgery. She was honoured to be invited for the distinguished fellowship in ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) from the reputable LV Prasad Eye Hospital, Hyderabad, India

She was also awarded GOLD MEDAL in DOMS ophthalmology.

She further went on to finish her Postgraduate training in Ophthalmic surgery from Nair Hospital and Topiwala National Medical College, Mumbai Central, Mumbai and thus achieved the M.S. (Ophthalmology) degree as a GOLD Medalist. Nair Hospital is one of the biggest centres for Mumbai Eye Care treatment in India. Here, she got great experience to learn complex eye surgeries like Cataract, Glaucoma, Squint, Retina etc.
After this, she worked in Byculla Municipal hospital, as an Eye Specialist. She served the community there, refined her skills and performed countless eye surgeries like cataract eye surgery, pterygium, squint eye surgery etc
